Summary
“So- here’s my take,” Taako said, examining his nails. “Merle- you’re right. It’s not our business. So let’s chill on it, yeah?”
Magnus scoffed angrily.
“You can’t just- Taako, you can’t just think that this is okay, right?” Magnus said. “I know Angus likes to act like he’s an adult sometimes, but he’s still a kid. You can’t honestly not be worried about what we heard today!”
Taako fought down a wince. He hadn’t told Magnus or Merle anything about his own upbringing. Didn’t want to, really. But it seemed as though it might actually be relevant now.
---
Angus mentions some troubling things about his past. Taako finds he can relate. Bonds are formed.

Summary
After the fight with Sazed, Taako had woken up in a hospital with his sister staring at him worriedly, moving her lips in the shape of his name, but all he could hear was some muddled, hodge-podge of meaningless noise. After telling Lup that he couldn’t hear her – Hachi machi, was it disorienting to speak without being able to hear yourself – she frantically summoned a healer into the room. And so, Taako the greatest chef in the world realized that he was permanently deaf for all intents and purposes.
Finally having had enough, Taako breaks things off with Sazed. Unfortunately, Taako interrupts Sazed trying to get revenge by poisoning his customers. The ensuing fight leaves Taako deaf, which he really doesn't mind much at all. More importantly it leaves him petrified of kitchens, forcing him to leave his restaurant behind and move back in with his twin and brother-in-law.
With his life in tatters and his vengeful ex still on the loose, Taako turns to the help of the private detective agency The Bureau of Benevolence. Can a boy detective and a tall, dark, and handsome bounty hunter really help turn things around?

Summary
They had reached a heavy iron door, and Kravitz withdrew a ring of keys from his pocket and unlocked it.
“I didn’t even get to eat any of the party food,” said Taako sadly, starting down a set of stone stairs. “Those canapes looked delicious.”
That got Kravitz to look at him. “I’ll have some sent down for you,” he said finally.

Summary
“So, you must be here about the job,” the old man goes on. “To tell you the truth, I’d just about given up on finding a decent nanny. When can you start?”
Taako stares at him. There’s an alarm klaxon blaring in the back of his brain, along with a shrill inner voice advising him to “abort, motherfucker, abort!”
In which Taako answers a general “help wanted” ad that actually changes his entire stupid life.
