Summary
Writing a Teen Wolf fic where Derek takes this bloke Stiles to see a film in the cinema before taking him back to his flat to meet his mum? Writing a Sherlock fic where Sherlock meets John at college while studying for a big test so they both get good grades?
If so, you need this Britspeak to Amerispeak directory. I hope to keep adding to it, so feel free to put any instances in the comments that I'm missing so far. This is meant to be GENERAL advice, obviously there will be exceptions, but if you're a Brit writing American characters or an American writing British characters, take a cruise through and see if there are any word usage or spelling errors you might have made! I tagged the fandoms I'm in, but of course it could be helpful to any American or British fandom.
Note: I am American, born and raised, and have lived in almost every part of this country. Feel free to add your comments and suggestions, but if you start it with "Actually, Americans would never..." just know that I am laughing at you right now.

When a male prostitute brings Holmes home after he's been attacked Watson knows that he shouldn't ask questions;-
It is an insolent question and Holmes’ eyebrows lift towards his hairline. I look down to where his white hand rests on his knee and await my fate. He waits until I lift my head again before he speaks. Holmes regards me with a smile darting around his red lips. He sits up Indian fashion in his armchair and steeples his fingers together. “Not often. Now what is that you really wish to know, my dear Watson?”
I choke back the one word answer ‘everything’ and mumble that it isn’t my concern. Holmes uncurls himself and pours us both a brandy. His fingers touch mine when he hands me the glass and it is unlike any other passing contact. “My God,” I say and gulp the brandy down.

Wade's fingertips slide up to the base of the exposed claws, where tender skin is healed fast around cooling metal. Draws the pads of his fingers carefully along either plane of one claw, stroking the skin there, and Logan draws a sharp breath.
Wade stills. "That hurt?"
Logan shakes his head, and Wade keeps going. Presses a little harder; feels Logan's fingers twitch.
Holy fuck, this is doing something for him.
