Summary
“‘Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions’,” Angel intoned. “‘It is the opium of the people’.”
Valentino perked up, craning over Angel’s shoulder to peer at the page. “Opium?”
Vox almost screamed. “NO. No opium. There is no opium. Angel, go home.”
Angel snickered, shutting the book. “Alright, big boss. See ya tomorrow, Val.” He gave Val a lingering kiss before hopping to his feet and sauntering out.
As soon as the door clicked shut, Vox whirled on Val. “I spent all day trapped in my office, filling out anger management worksheets with the princess of Hell, and you’re down here letting that whore read you Marxist bedtime stories??”
Or: Charlie unionizes Voxtek, the fic.

Summary
“I think I’m in love with you.”
The radio sputters, silencing Ella Fitzgerald with a harsh crunch of discordant static. For a long moment, the silence is deafening.
Heart pounding, Lucifer dares to peek through his fingers.
Alastor is staring at him mutely. His crimson eyes are blown wide, grin frozen in a rictus of astonishment; every inch of him thrums with newfound tension, radiating sickening discomfort in a way that would be palpably obvious even if he wasn’t also emitting a faint, shrill whine of feedback through the airwaves.
Then, very faintly: “No.”
Or: Lucifer has never been very good at recognizing his own feelings. Unluckily for him, Alastor knows exactly how he feels about the L word. Also, soup.

Summary
“We missed you, you big baby,” she says, and Alastor laughs wetly, muffled. “You got a lot of explaining to do, but hell, you’re still one of us.”
“Frankly,” Vox says, “if you actually tried to leave, I would lock you up in the basement.”
Valentino sighs affectionately, squeezing Alastor’s hand. “He doesn’t mean that.”
“I very much mean that.”
Alastor wants to say something along the lines of “I would be offended by anything less,” but when he tries to speak, all that comes out, horrifyingly, is a crackly sob. But it just makes Vox’s arms tighten around him, so, whatever. There are worse things.
Or: In a softer timeline, Alastor comes home to the Vees when his seven year sabbatical is up.

Summary
Angel sort of hates himself for the little ember of pride behind his ribs at getting Husk to laugh—makes him feel like he’s still chasing the guy’s approval, trying to figure out how best to make himself appealing to his new master in all the ways he used to be appealing to Valentino. The thought that maybe if he could hit whatever button would make Husk’s gaze focus on him instead of the next big gamble, to make him recognize Angel’s value, he wouldn’t be thrown away again.
Look where that got him. A decade of nothing, and now he’s starting from scratch. He’s supernaturally gifted at wasting his life on shitty men.
Or: In the eighties, Overlord Husk swindles Valentino for Angel Dust's soul—not that it really changes anything. A decade later, Husk loses everything to the Radio Demon. Angel's still working out his feelings about that.

Summary
As if a piece of addict trash like me could ever get into Heaven, anyway.
He feels a loopy smile pulling at the corners of his mouth as the guy next to him leans in close, talking indistinctly in his ear. A possessive hand sneaking around his waist, gripping his hip.
Husk’s face flashes across his mind, filled with disappointment. Judgment.
And fuck Husk. Fucking hypocrite.

Summary
There, sitting on the edge of Alastor's bed, legs lazily crossed with one hand splayed out behind him, is Lucifer. His expression is strangely inscrutable, and Alastor despises the way it crawls down over him, taking in every loathsome detail of the humiliating state he's found himself in.
"Get out," he rasps—because there's no use asking how he got in. There probably isn't a single place in Hell that could keep Lucifer out if he put his mind to it. "Or are you enjoying the view that much?"
"Honestly?" Though Lucifer does not exactly smile, a dark shadow of amusement dances across his face before being replaced by something more resigned, almost disappointed. "Not as much as I thought I would. It's kind of pathetic, actually."
Alastor hadn't wanted anyone to see him like this, least of all Lucifer.

Summary
“You know... maybe having the King of Hell into you isn't the worst thing in the world...” Vox mused, all of the tension returning to Alastor's frame in one go, like a children's toy having the strings through its arms and legs pulled taut.
A crackle of static bled into the air, his voice going dangerously low.
“Ha – what are you implying, Picture Box?” Alastor asked, leaning back on Vox's lap, narrowing his eyes at the other man's screen. The apologetic, contrite look he had been expecting to find was conspicuously absent – Vox looked thoughtful.
Like he was having an idea.
