When she rounded the corner, it became clear at once: this was not someone she knew.
An angular black shape hunched next to the wall. A shape that would have been near-invisible in the dark, save for a fall of bright fabric and a pair of horns that gleamed even in the unlit room. Those horns snapped up as she came into view, their serrated silhouette something akin to the leaders of the mantis tribe but far larger, sharper, marked with a single set of eyes—two slanted apertures that seemed to open upon a darkness deeper than the night itself.
