“I thought I’d save you the effort of breaking down the bathroom door to make sure that I wasn’t bleeding out,” he says dryly. “I doubt Jesper and Wylan would appreciate the cost of replacing it.”
Kaz steps back to lean against the vanity. She can see his cane lying on the ground nearby—it must have fallen over, producing the thud she heard earlier. He looks a little rumpled, but not actively close to death, and Inej feels herself relax just slightly.
She steps inside, closing the door behind her and crossing her arms. “Well, are you?”

Kaz gets stabbed in the shoulder, and Inej finds him in the bathroom. Something about this is familiar.
