Just as Daemon had gathered armies for Viserys' claim, Aemond would defend Rhaenys'. She was his favorite, the one he strove to protect. Perhaps it was because of their opposite nature, the way she seemed to take after the waters of her fathers family and soothed the raging fire within him.
Many insisted that like were drawn to like and yet the Targaryen family was proof that this was not always true. Aegon the Conqueror was more similar to his sister Visenya and yet he loved Rhaenys more. Rhaena and Jaehaerys were terrifyingly similar and yet Jaehaerys loved Alysanne above all others. Baelon was far more gentle than Alyssa and yet their souls burned as one. It was not something any maester or any man could quantify. There was no explanation for what caused that fire in their blood to roar, to explain that instinctual and primeval dragon instinct to identify and claim their mate.

Rhaenyra births only daughters with Laenor and the Dance is averted because for some reason to Targaryen men their nieces are like catnip. Aemond, Aegon, and Daeron find themselves oddly motivated to stop a war when presented the chance to court and marry their nieces.

Summary
Oscar had never really put all that much thought into his status as a beta.
As a beta, his secondary sex didn't put anywhere near as much of an effect on his every day life in the way that being an alpha or omega would. He didn't experience heats or ruts, and well… his ability to scent was baseline. His own scent was mild and even, much less prone to souring. In turn, he wasn't as affected by the scents of others either. It meant he had a pretty easy time on the track, all things considered.
