Summary
"El," Margo says slowly, "out of curiosity, what did Penny tell you when he picked you up?"
"He said Q got cursed," Eliot wheezes out. "That it looked bad, and—he wouldn't give me details." When Margo only hums, he stares hard at the dark shape of her until his eyes readjust. "Why?"
"Well," Margo starts, then shrugs again instead of elaborating. "You know what, it's funnier this way. Just go."

Summary
All it took was one thought of skin-tight fabric, of slight resistance when pushing his fingers under the hem or tugging the waistband over Quentin's hips, and then Eliot couldn't stop thinking about it until he took action. So, one Margo-assisted shopping trip and a few minutes alone with Quentin's dresser later, here they are.
or: Eliot finally puts into motion a long-held plan to give Quentin a wardrobe upgrade... though he probably should've mentioned it to Quentin first.

Summary
"Why didn't you tell us your birthday was coming up?" Margo demands, all but leaping off the couch. "We would've started pregaming at the end of June!"
"There's still time," Eliot says, sitting up straighter. "We can break out the emergency scotch, and Hoberman probably owes me at least one favour—"
"Guys," Quentin cuts in weakly, "it's not really… I mean, look, I know you two are, like— you block off your entire birth months for one long party, I get it, I live here." He shrugs again under their matching impatient stares, slowly closing the book in his lap. "But I don't really… make a big deal out of mine."
or: Sometimes having a summertime birthday really sucks, but sometimes it really doesn’t.

Summary
"I honestly kind of forgot about it," Quentin admits, fumbling with the jacket buttons for an excuse to keep his head down. "I actually still have to go find out if I left my dress shoes in Jersey, and— fuck, I guess I need a tie, right?"
He glances at the mirror to find Eliot's eyes have lit up behind him. "Allow me," he says, then turns and flits out of the room. Quentin blinks after him, somewhat confused, but he barely has time to shoot Margo a questioning look before Eliot reappears, hands behind his back and a smile on his face. "Here."
With a flourish, he presents Quentin with a tie that must be his own, deep green and gold in a swirling pattern - paisley or something, Quentin thinks. "Do you know how to tie it?" Eliot prompts after a second, and Quentin realizes he's been too busy staring to react.
or: 5 times Quentin borrows something from Eliot’s closet, and 1 time Eliot takes a turn.

Summary
"That got me thinking," Eliot hums, sliding his fingers down the edge of Quentin's jaw, "about some other things that you might be more... receptive to than I originally thought. Other things you might like the feeling of."
His hand slips lower and lower, then stops just short of dipping under Quentin's shirt, his palm wide and warm on the side of his neck. Quentin can't help swallowing against the gentle pressure. "Like what?"

Summary
"Before you ask, pool party attendance is always mandatory."
Quentin pauses, thrown. "I didn't know Brakebills had a pool."
"It doesn't," Eliot agrees, then leads Quentin through the back door to the yard behind the Cottage where an inground pool is waiting for them, clear blue and sparkling in the sun.
or: Spending an afternoon enjoying the weather with Eliot and Margo leads Quentin to some unexpected outcomes, some better than others.

Summary
One second Eliot is unbuttoning his waistcoat, watching Charlton-as-Hyman wrestle his pants off, mentally resigned to doing whatever this is for the rest of the afternoon, and the next he’s on a rocky cliff facing the sea, squinting in the sun as the wind blows his tie over his shoulder.
"Oh, thank fuck," says Margo.
Eliot comes to New Fillory, and everything turns out fine.
