After months of pining for Penelope's letters or any word from her during his tour, Colin finally comes home and braces himself at the Danbury Ball to finally get a glimpse of Penelope and talk to her. He looks up the grand staircase and he releases a breath he didn't know that he had been holding. Pen. The Lady in Emerald. And she was not alone. There was a man beside her. Colin's eyes darkened.
"I would like for you all to meet the new Lord Featherington." Portia proudly gestured to her right, while the man looked at her fondly as if he was already used to her antics. He finally spoke and addressed the Bridgertons, but it might as well be the whole ballroom.

Colin takes in a deep breath, nods and looks up, meeting Penelope’s curious gaze, “this is to be our home” he says shakily, sounding more like a question rather than a statement.
She freezes, staring wide eyed with her mouth slightly agape, trying to find a response. Penelope is not prepared to have this conversation, she was hoping they could avoid it entirely for a very long time. Being the age of just 10 years old, she didn’t have any business talking so assuredly about her future, about their future.
