Summary
“Prongs I know you understand me, so stop pretending not to.” Sirius says as he and the stag walk further down the quiet castle hallway.
“What you were even doing out at this hour, I have no idea. But I do understand needing to have a little run through the forest.”
The stag turns its head toward Sirius and blinks and huffs air at him. Obviously agreeing.
“But surely you could have let literally any one of us know where you were? Hell, I probably would have gone with you!”
The stag's ears twitch and his snout nudges Sirius's shoulder.
“I know you’re sorry, it’s okay really. We were just worried and when we didn’t see you anywhere on the map, I thought the only place you could be is outside.”
The stag huffs again.
“I know, I’m brilliant.”

The entity scoffed, its annoyance evident now on James' features. “Fine. Since you have no other questions to ask me, I’ll entertain this one. I wasn’t lying when I said I have so many names, but I’ll tell you my favorite.”
“What is it, then?” He asked, his voice blank and indifferent. Patient, even.
“Mercy,” it whispered in James’ voice, and Regulus brow furrowed. The entity’s eyes darkened further. “It’s what the old villagers called out when they saw me coming. It was always the last thing so many of them screamed before I ripped them apart. I don’t know why they titled me with such a name, but it’s my favorite. I carry it with me to this day. My most cherished gift.”
or, Regulus is a disgraced curse breaker, and James is in dire need of his help.

Summary
Regulus isn’t sure how he got here.
Well, no. That’s not quite true. He knows how he got here—in the middle of a packed dance floor with James’ hands wandering dangerously and his mouth on a mission to mark the living hell out of Regulus’ throat.
This isn’t the first time they’ve gone clubbing with Evan and Barty. Sometimes Sirius and Remus tag along. Other times, it’s Pandora and Lily, or Dorcas and Marlene. When they can manage it, all of them wind up on the floor with their heads thrown back and liquor in their blood.
It’s good to let loose every once in a while. The world is too messy, too serious, and between stuffy office jobs and bills that need paying, the tension in their very bones pulls taut as a string.
At least until it can finally snap.
