This is what finally gets Clark to look at him. His hand goes slack as he squints up at him in confusion. “No?”
“And you don’t have a ten-foot tentacle for genitalia?”
“Bruce.”
“Clark,” he says, with the same amount of exasperation. “I thought it was going to be something serious. I was prepared to wear a hazmat suit.”
“It’s been a problem in the past!” Clark protests, raising himself up to a sitting position. Then, incredulously: “You’d wear a hazmat suit just to have sex with me?”
(Clark has a—well, you could say, "little"—problem. Bruce just wants to bone.)

Bruce watches him appreciatively, standing with her arms crossed and a smirk playing on her lips. Clark wants to touch her. He could, if he wanted to, cross the room and have her pressed against the wall in less than a second. He doesn’t, only because he enjoys the way she watches him from afar.
Their eyes meet for a long moment, and then hers drop down intentionally to his thighs.
Several feet apart, he still feels it like she’s touching him. His thighs spread open a bit wider under her gaze without him even thinking about it.

He’s just looking at him, so tenderly, so open. Bruce forces himself to meet the gaze, not sure what’s reflecting in his eyes. He hopes that whatever Clark can see in them is enough to keep him there.
“I’m not going to press,” Clark says, which at least isn’t him leaving. “If you don’t want this, that’s okay.”
This isn’t how it’s supposed to go. There is supposed to be a profound coming together. Clark is waiting and Bruce doesn’t know how to get there.
(Or Bruce needs some courage and a little nudge to get there and Clark is patient and unwavering.)

“I’m trying this new thing out,” Bruce said dryly, “where I try to be supportive of emotionally constipated children.”

Jason blinked. “Nah, pretty sure that’s coffee.”
“Most common stakeout drink for children,” he amended after he swallowed.
“And you just carry them around?”
Bruce shrugged. “Never hurts to be prepared.”
(aka Bruce becomes a Purse Mom once he starts acquiring kids. A collection of nonlinear scenes about being prepared, always keeping juice boxes on hand, suits with abnormally large pockets, and learning how to stock utility belts.)

Bruce knows a few things: he is Bruce Wayne; he is an orphan; he is Batman; he is Dick’s guardian; he is a member of the Justice League; he is in love with Clark Kent; Clark is in love with him.
And for a while, that's enough. But he can't shake the feeling that maybe this isn't the best reality. That Clark would be better with Lois. And so when option presents itself, Bruce makes an executive decision. He ends things.
Clark knows one thing: sometimes, things end, and you can't stop them ending. And all you can do is pick up the pieces that are left, look to tomorrow, do the best what you have, and not lose hope.
And Dick? Dick knows that all of this really sucks.
