Summary
In a world where the be-all and end-all of relationships is determined by soul resonance, Henry can’t have a soulmate and Alex experiences soul resonance in such a disruptive way that he just doesn’t want one. Against all odds, this is their story.
So he obediently shuffles after June and Nora to say hello, trying his very best not to get distracted by all the connections his brain is shouting at him about.
He’s actually trying so badly not to get distracted that he ends up not realizing it’s his turn to say hello to Prince Henry until he’s right there in front of Alex, holding out a hand, and it means he doesn’t have time to register much outside of wow, are his eyes really that blue? and that’s less of a smile and more of a grimace before their hands touch.
And for the first time since puberty hit, it’s not a sensory shock, it doesn’t feel like someone’s soul is shouting at him.
It’s peaceful. It’s—
“Quiet,” Alex whispers. “Your soul is so quiet.”

Bookmarker's Notes
This is like the love version of nature vs nurture -- is it love because you're soulmates or is it love because you want it to be? Honestly so fun, tricks you into being deeply philosophical, and also the fucking Buzzfeed headline was so real 🤣

Summary
During the battle for the Oathgate in Shadesmar, Adolin is mortally wounded. This one small change, just a matter of inches, sets off a series of events that will rewrite the history of Roshar.
-
In a war between immortal undead and fragments of divinity itself, hope is found in strange places - including the notebook of an artifabrian, the pockets of a surgeon, and the sewing lessons of a little prince.
“Darning socks is easy, my little light. There are other things - hearts, and minds, and people - that are far harder to mend. But you have clever hands, and a gentle soul…”
“And a needle?” Adolin said, beaming and holding up the little sewing kit in a chubby hand.
Evi smiled.
“And a needle.”
(This started as a bit of indulgent hurt/ comfort, only to become a massive story involving murder, conspiracies, execution, Stormscience, offworld travel, spren politics, and the unforseen effects of simple compassion. It also provides real consequences for certain major canonical decisions that seemed to be swept under the rug.
If you want explicit Shakadolin check out “Unraveling”, a series of romantic interludes that fit between various chapters of this story)

These differences between British and American terminology and culture below are all ones I have seen in Sherlock fic or that are likely to come up in Sherlock fic. It is not exhaustive and I know that I will think of or spot at least 10 more as soon as I post this, but it is a start. If you have read fic set in America written by a Brit you will know that these things jar and spoil the flow quite a lot, so here you go.

Summary
August Koval bails out of a carriage (and a forced marriage) and stumbles into the arms of the Institute, left with no choice but to seek shelter with people he knows only from stories. He couldn't have arrived at a stranger time. The Institute has rescued a young woman with mysterious shapeshifting powers, whose story eerily mirrors August's own, pulling him into the resulting mystery. As August digs deep into the hard truths about himself, about his family, and just how deep the rabbit hole of the Magister's madness goes, he finds himself forced to make a decision about who (and what) he is, and where his loyalties lie—and when the factions include the London Institute and his own ancestors, that decision is a hard one.
Or, I wondered what would've happened if Mortmain did some research on genetics and realized that to get more angelic warlocks you need two of them to start with, and not one and a mundane. So I decided I'd write a little bit and figure that out for myself. I threw in some queer shipping and another couple of plot elements I would've been curious to see in the series, and this was the result.
Or, or, Gregor Mendel and the quest for immortality vs. the plot of The Infernal Devices.

Summary
Alternate Universe
The British wizarding community has been irrevocably shaped by the dark legacy of Lord Voldemort and his fanatical quest for blood purity. In the wake of Voldemort's death, thirteen ruling dynasties have taken up the reins, zealously guarding the traditions and tenets of a society that's both rigidly conservative and caste-divided.
The humdrum life of Ginny Weasley, a young Blood Traitor, is turned upside down when she crosses paths with Draco Malfoy, scion of one of these sacred dynasties.
As their disparate worlds collide, her core beliefs are thrown into turmoil, set against a backdrop of political unrest.
