The rainy season was supposed to have ended by now, but the layers of greenish clouds over the city did not abide by any fixed calendar. The patch of damp on the bedroom ceiling increased slowly but steadily, and Camilla monitored it grimly every morning as though it were an encroaching army. They had tried keeping the windows open for ventilation, but it had meant wrestling Nona into more layers after Palamedes had noticed the consistent bluish tinge to her skin.
