Summary
“As the morning sun shines in from the open window, giving his skin the appearance of satin, I finally grasp what Peeta meant that day in the woods. I understand what it means to watch the person you love, content and safe and unaware, while beams of light land on their skin, illuminating them in the most ethereal way.”

Summary
She learned this story when she was young. Her father had told her of the labyrinth, of the goblins that came for the children in the dark of the night, and of the castle where there lived a king. She loved this story when she was young.
“You’re a goblin,” she says.
She’s made a terrible, terrible mistake.
He smiles. “I," he says, "am the Goblin King.”
AU. Katniss and Peeta in the premise of Labyrinth.

Summary
Peeta is full aware that he sounds like something terrified. Something deranged, but Katniss nods firmly.
“I believe you," She whispers. "I believe you. But it's all stopped. We're safe, sweetheart, I promise.”
His voice cracks when he next speaks.
“I can't go back to them again.”
Katniss brings her head forward so her forehead rests against his, and all Peeta can think is that she can’t possibly be comfortable in that position; leaning up into his shaking frame with her hands still warm and steady against his jaw.
“I will never let that happen.”
Alternatively:
In which Peeta Mellark doesn't want Katniss to see just how badly he's holding up until everything eventually comes crashing down on him. A sequel to "all the version of me dead (and buried in the yard outside)"

Summary
Peeta is seven the first time he sees the Girl. He’s reeling from a backhand, blood filling his mouth and the sky is a darkening gray. For a moment he’s alone and the world is so empty. Then suddenly nothing is simple.
There’s a flash of color, a rainbow of faded cloth against the gray background. A girl, the Girl is watching him and when he meets her eyes she smiles. Maybe it’s the Universe or Fate, or maybe Peeta somehow knows how his own story will end, but he doesn’t turn away.

Katniss is eight the first time she finds a Ghost. Her father is off digging through the earth, looking for her namesake, when a feeling of wrongness catches her off guard.
For a moment there’s nothing. Then she sees a boy, who has no place in the forest, standing by a tree, bruises around his neck, peeking out from beneath his collar.
(Or Katniss and Peeta can see ghosts, some things change for the better, some things don’t)
