Summary
The man inside turns around at the noise, and Lan Zhan’s eyes widen before he takes an abrupt step back.
He momentarily wonders if he’s in a dream—or a nightmare—but ultimately decides he cannot be because his mind could never have come up with such a realistic image of him. It could never have replicated the deep gray of his eyes, storm-like as they’ve always been, the current downturn of his mouth, the wrinkles between his eyebrows. Lan Zhan’s eyes are inescapably drawn to the smoothness of his cheeks, the plumpness of his lips, the brightness of his eyes.
Wei Ying.
Wei Ying, whose last words to Lan Zhan had been, “I never want to hear from you again, Lan Zhan. From now on, you’re dead to me.”

When Lan Zhan accepts the case, thinking it will go as it always does, he expects there to be at least some bumps along the road. What he does not expect is to be met with such a mystery, to meet a man he thought he would never see again, and for memories and feelings of the past to be brought back to light.

“Jie? Sorry, I just missed your first call, what’s up?”
He sounds way too casual for having abandoned their toddler cousin at daycare today. Wen Qing is trying not to freak out.
“Why didn’t you pick up A-Yuan today?” Wen Qing perches her phone between her ear and her shoulder. “I’m at the hospital Wen Ning, I have been for hours. Did the daycare call? Who picked up A-Yuan today?”
“You're still at the hospital? And no? Maybe Wei Ying picked him up.”
Wen Qing’s rapid thoughts come to a screeching halt.
After going missing for a year, a worse-for-wear Wei Ying shows up on Wen Qing's doorstep. She makes him stay, even though it adds a mentally ill young man to her odd mix of family. She doesn't regret it, but she still gets scared when Wei Ying accidentally becomes A-Yuan's caretaker for the night when he is not able to handle the task. Or so she thinks.

“What’s gotten into you? You have a nightmare or something?”
At the sound of his voice Wei Wuxian swung around to stare at Jiang Cheng, his eyes huge and lips slightly parted.
A prickle of unease ran down Jiang Cheng’s spine. This was not typical Wei Wuxian behavior.
“Hello? Wei Wuxian?” Jiang Cheng waved a hand in the direction of his brother’s face.
Wei Wuxian took a shuddering breath than swallowed convulsively and nodded. “Ah… Jiang Cheng. You’re… You’re so… Then this is… Wow. Ok. Wow.”
Or Wei Wuxian gets sent back in time to when he's studying at the Cloud Recesses. The result? Chaos.
