When they told him the truth, he almost wished they had never rescued him in the first place.
Rhodey goes through the motions of life and living and all he can do is grieve.
Alternatively, a study in grief featuring James Rhodes, his late best friends pseudo son, and for some reason, the guy who killed his late best friends parents.

Summary
Tired of superheroing, Tony opens a bakery in Rose Hill, Tennessee. He lives a calm, quiet life, hanging out with his pseudo-son Harley Keener. At least he did, until an extremely handsome man shows up.
Running from Hydra, Bucky Barnes ends up in a bakery in the middle of a small town in Tennessee. Inexplicably he ends up staying in town, and starts to get close to the cute baker and his son.
It takes them longer than you think to find out who the other is.

His smile is tense and odd and twisted, too high on one end and turned a bit down on the other. He isn’t sitting, yet it feels as though he leaps to his feet upon their arrival anyway, bounding towards James with an almost relieved sounding, “Mr. Rhodes! It’s wonderful to meet you. I’m Tony, and this—” he gestures behind him, towards the teenager that only sinks lower in his seat, scowl deepening even further, “—is my son, Harley.”
Despite the clear disinterest in the situation, Harley still glances towards James and huffs out a reluctant, “Hello, Mr. Rhodes,” before turning his head towards the wall and acting as if none of them are there.
James smiles at him, even though he’s no longer looking. “Hello, Harley. It’s nice to meet you.” Then, turning towards Tony, he extends a hand and says, “And you, Mr. Stark. You can call me James.”
Tony’s face twists. “As long as you call me Tony."

Summary
First, Jaskier lost his witcher on that mountain top. Then Nilfgaard started the war and he lost everything else. Now he travels the Continent as a nameless, wandering, welcome bard. There is no greater power, Jaskier knows, than that of bringing light into darkness through the art of music and poetry.
It comes as a great surprise to him, then, that his presence is asked at Kaer Morhen by none other than Yennefer of Vengerberg. Although apprehensive, all hesitation melts away when he hears why they need him. Princess Cirilla seems in dire need of a bard to bring some light back into her eyes.
For that, Jaskier knows, he would even bear to live with four grumpy witchers and the Continent's most powerful mage. Oh well... He's sure this won't end well for him.
