Written for Hermione's Nook Anniversary Drabble Fest. Prompt: It's five minutes to midnight on NYE, and Person A is looking for Person B to give them their first kiss of the year. Just before midnight, they finally find each other.
A bright, familiar laugh rang out over the din and Remus felt his heart leap in his chest, automatically scanning the crowd for a shock of red hair. Despite his protests to the contrary Remus couldn’t deny the feelings of affection, protectiveness and, yes, lust that Lily Evans stirred in him. That he was a werewolf never seemed to bother her, and he had long considered her his best friend, time spent bonding over books and homework and rolling their eyes at the other Marauder’s antics blossoming into fancy on his part.
Grabbing up the shot that had been set on the bar for a woman paying less attention to it than her date Remus tossed it back, letting the alcohol instill him with a confidence he rarely felt in everyday life before he pushed into the crowd, intent on finding her. Purpose fuelled his steps, Sirius’s words echoing in his mind as a desperate sort of hope that he was right, Lily felt the same, filled him.

Her re-entry into his life dredges up old feelings he'd long thought faded and gone, throwing his once-peaceful life into disarray and changing the both of them forever.Sharp grey eyes rake over her figure, noting the frail thinness of her body, hair short and nails bitten to the quick; a shadow hides behind bright green eyes, and when his gaze settles on the dark bruise staining her cheek, Sirius sees red.
“I’m going to kill him.”
It’s a calm declaration, more than anything else, said with a cool certainty that leaves no room for debate; not that he lingers long enough for either of them to try, just barely registers the shock-fear-hope? that flashes across her face as he turns to stalk out the door. Vaguely he registers Remus behind him, calling his name, but he will not be swayed.
Sirius Black is on a mission.

It started to rain, and not the light drizzle, the kind that you step into and you feel the cold down to your bones. Bella was already shivering. She flicked her windshield wipers on as she flew across the roads. With a gasp, she flew across the treaty line, and she almost buckled. It felt as though a thread had been snipped and suddenly her starving lungs were filling up with air.
Overcast skies poured down on her as she drove frantically toward him. Alice would've been so upset that her perfect day was ruined, Bella was anything but. Jacob. Jake. My Jake. She repeated the words to herself like a mantra, stealing all of her nerves down. "
