“We should at least give it a look,” Marina continues, as if she can’t read Pearl like her favorite manga—as if she doesn’t already know that Pearl is going to cave. “If it’s unsalvageable, we can pull it down. No point in leaving it up, right?”
Pearl sits back in her chair, crossing one leg over the other. Her foot bounces as they stare at each other, a small habit that she’d picked up from Marina over the years. “It’ll be salvageable.”
The grin that Marina hits her with is like the sunset over Mount Nantai, the first day they met: large and breathtaking. “Yeah?” she asks, pleased with the unsaid acquiesce to this years-long request.
“Yeah.” Pearl leans her elbow into the desk and her cheek into her fist. “Because you can fix anything.”
