“Are you sure?” Jayce asks again as Viktor comes closer, quietly but calmly, as opposed to his whole body, but in time with his hands. They are lying — the right hand is on the cover of the notebook, and the other is on his knee, without a task, waiting for the next one. The fingers of his left palm tap the rhythm subtly, subconsciously, as if Jayce were reading his own pulse in Morse code. ‘Unsettling,’ it says, but only once, before it is speechless again.
“Of course,” Viktor's words sound ordinary, mundane, like a response to ‘did you have breakfast today?’ rather than ‘are you sure you want me to put some bolts in you?’
