The first time Natasha calls Yelena to tell her she’s coming home, Yelena herself isn’t actually home. Her surprised “Natasha?” when she picks up the phone is practically drowned out by a massive boom in the background and the sound of combat.
“What the hell is going on over there?” Natasha asks, her mind already racing a mile a minute. “Do you need help? I can--”
“No no no, is fine, everything is fine,” Yelena says quickly. Someone beside the blonde swears colorfully in Russian--a Widow, Natasha thinks, though through the phone she’s not able to immediately place the voice--and several rounds of gunfire go off somewhere nearby, confirming that things are very much not fine. “Am on a mission, you know how it goes. What’s up?”
