No more room for Dr. Lecter in his mind, or Copycat, or The Chesapeake Ripper, not when he’s pretty sure his chart shows that he’s had HIV and hepatitis tests run on him. Maybe more. Do they do anything special when somebody else’s blood drowns your open gut wound?

“Do not make me go back up there,” Will says. “Not until your guests are gone, at any rate.”
“Was it really so intolerable?” Hannibal replies.
Will answers him by taking a swig from the bottle of 2000 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino, the image of St. Michael glowering out from beneath the fist around the bottle’s neck. A muscle by Hannibal’s left eye twitches, from the unpleasant combination of irritation, confusion, and fascinated charm that is circulating through his upper chest at the moment. For a moment, he dares hope that Will is drunk enough that he won’t remember finding the basement in the morning.

And isn’t this what he wanted? Revenge, escape, abnegation. Out here, he can disperse into the world. In there, all he could have ever done was dissolve into himself. His back aches, and he doesn’t know if it’s the real remains of however Matthew brought him here, or some ghostly echo of his own vicious delight, but it pushes him forward. Step by step, closer and closer, until he stands before Lecter awash in bloody reverence.
“You always manage to surprise me, Will,” Lecter says, fighting to enunciate over the bite of the rope.
“Shut up,” Will says.

Will goes very still.
There’s a subtle, hair-fine moment when the human hindbrain remembers what it’s like to be prey. Hannibal has gotten good at recognizing it. But Will’s tension is a coiled thing, the imperceptible shift of muscles under skin, a push off the back foot.
He doesn’t react like prey. He reacts like a young predator before it remembers its finally grown teeth.

A "The Luminous Dead" AU starring Hannibal and Will and assorted guests. If you haven’t read the book, think of this as a sci-fi AU where in order to win his freedom, spaceport-mechanic Will has to survive a descent into a dangerous cave on a mining planet where many cavers are killed by something mysterious. Add in a doctor-scientist Hannibal and Will in a mechanical suit that Hannibal can literally control and manipulate from the surface, and you've got a party.
Also the author is a noted Hannibal fan, so do you really need any more reason to read this or check out the book if you haven't already?

Will just keeps looking at him. He was kidnapped from bed so he wears what is most likely underwear for him, a white undershirt and boxer briefs. Blood paints his body like a canvas. "My life ended the moment they put me in that trunk."
"Yet here you are, alive. Why fight them if you have accepted your fate?"
Will blinks, eyes not quite meeting Hannibal’s. "Thought I could at least take some of them down with me if I tried hard enough." He looks down at the body between his feet and then back into the cabin. "I just wasn't expecting it to be so god damn easy."

Hannibal hears of Will not through a meeting, but through Tattlecrime, and swiftly becomes dangerously interested. When he decides to eliminate this particular problem, he arrives in Wolf Trap only to find someone else has gotten there first. Unable to relinquish his prey, he follows them, and finds something unexpected.
