Summary
Post-second wizarding war, the students of Hermione's year of Hogwarts are returning to finish their magical education and take their NEWT examinations.
Hermione is a newly registered Animagus, taking the form of a rather fluffy, brown cat.
Draco Malfoy, forced to return in penance for his actions, is bullied and discarded by the wizarding community for the actions he and his family had taken during the war.
The only solace he manages to find within the walls of the school... is a small, brown cat, who takes up a guardian-type status over him, becoming his only source of comfort, unaware of the cats true identity.

“You’re just…dating her,” Narcissa said slowly, her face contorting around the word as if she had never spoken it in her life. “That is…fine.”
“But marriage isn’t, right?” Draco retorted.
Her eyebrows shot up in surprise. She seemed to catalog him with new eyes, as if she had never noticed all the tiny ways in which he had become a man.
“Draco…is it really like that?” she asked quietly.
Draco shrugged and glanced back to the tapestry, eyes unseeing as he recalled a memory of wayward curls blowing across Hermione’s face, her lips curving into an unrestrained laugh.
“I love her,” he whispered plainly, feeling like he was revealing his most treasured secret.

Draco lives two discrete lives: the one in which he’s in love with Hermione Granger, and the one in which he’s his mother’s perfect son. He keeps them separate because he’s bone-shakingly afraid that if they ever meet, he’ll lose one or both of them.They end up meeting anyway.
