    Summary

“What’s the plural for a group of Steves?” asks Natasha, and it’s weirdly comforting that the question has a hint of whimsical hysteria to it. Good, Bucky’s not the only one who’s not dealing well with all of this.

“A clusterfuck,” he says. “A clusterfuck of Steves.”

Despite how little sense his life has made since he got on a battlefield to fight a bunch of aliens, Bucky's pretty sure he knows exactly what's happened when a much older Steve appears after the mission to return the Infinity Stones: he left Bucky behind to get his much deserved happily ever after in the past. Only then another Steve shows up, and another. And Bucky realizes he still hasn't got any idea what's going on.

What he does have is a whole lot of Steves, a fraught relationship with his own Steve, and tentative plans to leave. But the more Bucky talks to all these different versions of Steve, the more he begins to wonder if leaving really is what's best for him and his Steve, or if there's a way to make something new out of their long friendship.

“My name is Din Djarin,” had been the first thing he’d said when Cobb opened his door to him that ordinary evening a few months after the Mandalorian had helped them kill a dragon.

Cobb had taken him in slowly; that beskar armour looking a lot more scuffed than he’d have thought possible, the half torn cape hanging at his back, some kinda of spear alongside the rifle on his back and no satchel over his shoulder to hide a little one in.

Even if it hadn’t been for that Cobb would’ve known something had happened by the slumped slope of the man’s shoulders - the confident tall posture of someone who knows exactly who they are and their purpose in life replaced by hunching of his back, a hanging of his head, like he was trying to impact the world as little as possible.

Cobb has all the patience in the world for helping Din to heal.

“Stiles talks over him. ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’ve heard it all. We’re old, we’re married, blah, blah, blah,’ he says, leaning closer to Scott and kissing him. He runs a hand under Scott’s shirt, bringing it up to his chest and using his fingers to lightly brush over a nipple. Scott jerks, and Stiles smirks against his mouth. ‘That’s hot, dude.’

    Scott groans.”

or, some future sciles where they're married with kids.

    Summary

So long ago the details were lost to time, people began creating guardians of the dead. They were made from dogs, dogs who were buried in graveyards before anyone was laid to rest, their spirits arising as black dogs, bound protectors of the human dead.

Steve had always wondered what would happen after he died. He hadn't expected the answer to be 'wake up in the cemetery he'd been buried in', but here he was, some kind of ghost, and he could see the trees through his hands. It wasn't so bad, and he wasn't alone—a sleek black dog, golden eyes glowing bright, was happily waiting to greet him.

Decades later, on what was supposed to be a quiet, peaceful, definitely-not-life-changing walk through the woods, Bucky stumbled across an abandoned cemetery and into the impossible.

(It's a ghost story and a love story and a story about dogs.)

Bucky was just here, he was right here. This can’t be all that’s left.

Well, it’s not all that’s left, not quite. There, in the pile of ash that used to be Bucky Barnes, already drifting to scatter across the soil of Wakanda, to dissipate in the air, to be nothing but dust on Steve’s hands and in his gasping mouth and in his lungs—left there, in that ash and dirt, are his gun, and his left arm, gleaming dully in the sunshine.
