Martin’s favourite character had always been Professor Yaffle, the stuffy old woodpecker, and now that he had connected the two in his mind, Jon seemed a lot less intimidating. The sour look seemed more like a front and his self-important strut, well … it was actually quite amusing, when you pictured little carved woodpecker feet.
Maybe tomorrow - if he still worked here, tomorrow - he would make Jon a cup of tea in the morning, first thing; and make a fresh start.

Summary
“You a Flesh freak, then?” Gerry asks. He doesn’t look it, aside from the hands. Maybe the Stranger, from the way his—probably once very cute—face was drawn and thin, or the way his blonde hair was just a little too…much…to be real. Still, there isn’t any sense of uncanniness about him, really. It seems very intentional.
“Mm, no,” the man answers.
Gerry doesn’t have to ask again. Up close like this, he suddenly gets a good look at the creature’s bright eyes, looking up at him with manic interest and swirling blue, purple, yellow. “Spiral,” he groans.
