Summary
A shadow fell over Jason. He tensed without meaning to, a leftover instinct from the streets, and looked up to the man looming over him.
Jason remembered the face of every single one of his clients. He knew they had all been rich but he hadn’t thought that he would meet them again here, in a mundane gala. Not now that he was off the streets, safe and well-fed. “What do you want?” he asked. His aggression must have given him away, because the man smirked.
“A reminder of old times. And I’ll keep my mouth shut. If you refuse, I’m afraid I’ll be obliged to inform Bruce of who you really are.” He leaned in until he was whispering in Jason’s ears. Disgusted goosebumps rose on his flesh, and nausea churned harder in his stomach. “Do we have a deal?” asked the man.
