Like a droplet in the ocean, the stranger's velvet voice ripples. Deep enough to linger in Yeonjun's bones, gentle enough to fade away. He cradles the white cat’s head gently, thumb circling soothing lines between her squeezed-shut eyes. His body is hunched over as if to shield her from the world, slow-moving fingertips combing through her street-soiled fur, focused on picking away little pieces of dirt. There’s something so delicate about him. He adores animals, Yeonjun can tell.
“She’s sick.”
It takes a moment for Yeonjun to realise the handsome boy is talking to him. He’s doe-eyed, with a face like fresh snow.
Yeonjun’s heart jumps.

Yeonjun sighs heavily, folding another sweater and frowning at his best friend. “Boyfriends are so stupid. I wish I didn’t want one so bad.”
Beomgyu shrugs, looking unbothered by the older boy’s romantic woes. “Well, this is the perfect time to find someone, Junnie. Love is in the air! You just need to find someone to snuggle up with this holiday season. That’s the Christmas spirit!”
Yeonjun huffs out a cynical laugh. “Yeah, I’ll be sure to ask Santa Claus for a boyfriend this year, Gyu.”
“Hyung! Didn’t you hear?” Beomgyu asks, practically vibrating with excitement, “Santa’s Village just officially opened next to the food court! You could totally ask Santa for a boyfriend!”
Maybe he should go over there and ask Santa for a boyfriend this year. Why not? He might give whatever old man pretending to be Santa a heart attack, but Yeonjun is willing to take that risk. This might be exactly what Yeonjun needs to get back into the holiday spirit.
