“I know I haven’t spent much time here as of late,” Neve started, passing by Rook and brushing her hand against the small of her back as she did so, “but it’s mine.” She shrugged when she said it.
Rook moved to join Neve as she started towards her sofa. It took only a few steps from dining table to coffee table. She took Neve’s wordless invitation to join her as she sat and Rook sat herself close enough so that they were touching. She sank into soft, worn cushions. It made Rook’s heart swell to know Neve wanted to share this with her—this little glimpse into her life. Every time Neve opened herself up a little bit more, Rook took a ready step forward. “I think it’s perfect.” Rook said definitively, reaching for one of the hands Neve had folded into her lap. She was met with a laugh. “That’s generous!” Neve told her with that half smirk returning to her face. It made Rook’s heart beat faster more often than not.
