And of course, to explain Mikey, the very reason Carmy was there, meant explaining everything else: his Mom, his fucked up stomach, Richie's birthday noogies and Fak's Mario Kart wins, food, fear, his Dad, the barbecue incident, memories, dreams and his transition. It meant diving into his little family unit, his siblings and Richie, and admitting that it drifted apart too soon. Carmy wasn't ready to do that. It would be too much, to unearth all that pain. All that joy. All that time lost in the past, in a place where he can never return to.
So to answer Sydney's question of what he was doing there in The Beef, Carmy had just shrugged and replied, "I'm making sandwiches."

Sydney feels her stomach drop, and part of her is petrified Carmy's gonna say something like 'happy' to end the sentence, because she doesn’t know how to make that either—
“Taste like Mikey’s, I guess,” he says instead.

Sometimes he wakes up in the middle of the night and wonders if this is the rest of his life. He doesn’t use the word purpose, because everything feels so much less than that. But as the years start to add up, he resigns himself to the emptiness of it all.
There’s no reason for him to take the Dubenich job.
He says yes anyway. Like he was drawn to it, a little bit of destiny and a little bit of a higher power and a little bit of pure dumb luck.

The thing about coding is that it’s all about languages. It’s learning new syntaxes and phrases and framings, it’s reshaping your brain to communicate in a new way, with something that feeds on logic and direct lines of thoughts.
Where everyone else looks at Parker and sees something irrational and confusing, he sees a language, he sees a system of logic with rules to be learned.

This entire thing is so sweet, and like ik its technically unfinished but the last chapter could be an ending and it would still be perfect
The story feels like your clenching a muscle the entire time, and then at the very end you relax and it feels amazing
