Her voice was warm and her smile almost motherly. It made Merlin ache for the comfort of his home. He looked at her uncertainly. Merlin may have had a sheltered upbringing in his small farming village, but he could imagine what kind of work she had to offer him, and he wasn’t sure he wanted it. Still, he stood up, shaking slightly from hunger and exhaustion. There was something in this woman’s eyes that compelled Merlin to trust her.

Leon manoeuvred Gwaine so that he was lying on Leon’s lap. The First Knight gave a first, light slap on Gwaine’s arse.
“You really don’t need to do this. I won’t do it again, I promise!” Gwaine said, in a tone that imitated fear, but the little gasp at the end of his sentence let Leon know that he wanted this too.
After all, they had had a lengthy discussion at the start of their relationship. Gwaine knew what to say if he wanted to stop at any time.
Leon sighed, “You’ve brought this on yourself. You know how to avoid punishment. I swear, sometimes it looks like you want to be punished.”

As common as soul marks were, they weren’t well understood. No one knew where they came from or how they were determined, but a few things had become clear throughout history.
Every person had a soul mark over their heart that signified their own soul. The colors varied from person to person, and a colored soul mark elsewhere on your body meant that person was your romantic soulmate. A black mark was indicative of a parent-child soul bond and a white mark was a platonic bond. The marks would appear when the younger person was born, and some faded over time or disappeared or scarred upon death, but most stayed.

“You’re lucky that you are just as aro as I am; otherwise, this would be insulting as fuck.”
Merlin discovers that, apparently, there are restaurants who give out free cake on people's anniversaries. Really, there is no reason why this shouldn't apply to the anniversaries of a friendship, too. And if he and Arthur decide to stretch the definition of what counts as an anniversary a little—well, no one has to know, right? Right.
