The silence grew heavier and heavier, until Penelope let out with the most broken voice Benedict had ever heard from her “He left me”.
He slowly took her in his arms as she sniffed softly in his shirt.
“We Bridgertons take care of each other” Benedict offered. “If you’re pregnant, that baby will have everything they could ever need”.
Whatever warmth that had started to crawl into Penelope faded in an instant. She got herself free of his arms and fought back the tears. Was that it? Was that his only concern? A hypothetical baby? Summary
