Summary
"I just wish we would have more time."
What are you willing to do to get more time with the person you love? Are you willing to lose it all just to live one more day with them? Would you give up your world, your life? Would you sacrifice your existence, every little thing that define your identity?
But do you know who you are, deeply in your core? Which is your identity? And once you know and embrace your name, the only one who defines you, will you accept the aftermath?
This story is ending, the characters are getting their answers, but what will they do with them?

These are words of realization. These are words of a man who doesn't think he could deserve happiness and so he denies himself love. But what if love is a greater force that it can still burn him form underneath the ashes? What if no matter how much he wants to crumple his feelings, they never fade? These are words of a man who's trying to find peace, learning to cope with the confusion and contradictions that live within him.
"I was hopeless and it was pointless to deny it, and even if I would never act on my feelings, it felt liberating to admit it. I loved her. And I missed her."

"Mostly, I was afraid he could read how much I had already fallen for him without a proper reason, if a reason could ever be a requisite to love, and mostly I feared he could get scared of my feelings and disappear from my sight, my arms, my room."
These are the memories of a night spent together, when unnamed feelings start to become clearer and it is more difficult to suppress them. These are words describing the urgency and need to feel loved, and it doesn't matter how everything will end, not at the moment. These are the words that show how easy it is to show affection, how childish and simple love can be. These are the words that are meant to stay closed in one's memory before everything changes.
"And so, until we closed our eyes, I continued to delude myself picturing an illusory present where Captain Ackerman and I were simply lucky enough to sleep side by side, with our hands tied, not thinking about anything else and letting the thumps of our hearts speak for us, inebriated on the idea that it wouldn’t be the last time."

Those same few words will come back to haunt whoever has lost someone too soon, and the characters of this story are no exception.
The search for one's real identity will pause in front of unnamed feelings, because emotions blur the lines who define who we are.
To love is to change as to be loved is to be changed, and if this is true, would you accept love? Would you let yourself be touched by another soul knowing nothing would ever be the same? Would you let yourself be vulnerable?
