He'd been meaning to call Xiao Hua for hours, but there had been a delightful little restaurant run by an old friend of his in the area, and he'd been enjoying a chance to use his very valid seniors discount.
“Hua'er,” Xiazi grinned as he answered.
“Xiuxiu and Chuchu have disappeared.”
And just like that, ice ran down his spine, all traces of a good mood evaporating in an instant.
Xiao Hua didn't give him any time to process, “Xiuxiu joined Chuchu for a job in a remote region, I sent one of my men to keep an eye on them. Half an hour ago there was some kind of sinkhole, they both went down, rescue efforts are already underway and I'm going to send you the details, do you need me to arrange transport?”
“No,” Xiazi meant it as a denial of what Xiao Hua was telling him, but he could also make his own way.
