It annoyed Buck to no end, he tried to help but to often the hot-headed brunette would run from his careful watch and get lost in the crowd. To Bucky, it was a game, ‘how long will it take for Buck to find me’. The record was 5 minutes.or
After the war John and Gale try to run from each other, but find each other insteadthe lucky deuce makes a return, and there's a cat.

He takes the final step, lifts the lantern to flood the empty station with light, and sees a man laying on his stable floor.
He’s brunette, sweating, breathing unsteadily. There’s blood wiped messily on his forehead, down his neck. Half laying, half sitting up against the stack of haybales Buck keeps at the bottom of this station, he’s got one bloody hand pressed to his right thigh, which is caked with crimson. His other hand rests wearily on the Colt that’s tucked into the waistband of his pants.
Gale’s heart jumps, he wishes suddenly that he really did have a rifle, but when the man sees that Buck’s unarmed he raises the hand slowly, in a shaky surrender.

“You got a name?” Buck asks, in an attempt to distract.
The stranger swallows and takes a deep breath. “Bucky.”
Buck almost pauses in his work. He scoffs and shakes his head. “I’ll be damned.”
“Why’s that?”
“People call me Buck.”
Bucky huffs out a pained laugh, which quickly devolves into a groan. When he’s finished, he says, “Goddamn fate.”-
The one where stablehand Gale finds outlaw John “Bucky” Egan bleeding out in his stables.

And if he had known it back then as he stood on the side of the runway and waved to Phartzac and all the other forts that took off one by one, disappearing in the ominous clouds, he would have dragged Buck out of that cockpit without any hesitation immediately, or maybe he would have gotten on board that damned plane instead of him.

Mr Cleven and Coach Egan did not like one another. That was one simple fact known by the entire student body of Thorpe Abbots High. They were complete opposites to one another, Cleven was quiet and reserved, Egan could not shut up, being the centre of attention and action at all times. Egan’s life was about sports, baseball in particular, Cleven couldn’t stand them. Every time Egan talked you could practically see the detest on Celven’s face. And it seemed like Egan loved to get under the other man's skin, revelling in the idea that someone saw him as obnoxious and brash and not impossibly charming, for some reason wanted to solidify that opinion and not change it.
From the moment they started working together, everyone knew it and no one questioned it. Mr Cleven and Coach Egan did not like one another.
Curtis Biddick was certain they were having an affair.

Or Gale's a rich kid with daddy issues and Bucky is the leader of a motorcycle club.

Your leg’s fucked, you’re not going anywhere.” Bucky said with a sigh. “As entertaining as this has been, it’s always a pleasure to meet new people, this gun is a little heavy and my arm is starting to hurt. So either show us the pretty smile I’m sure you got hiding under there and get on your knees; or I’ll shoot you in the head.”
He shrugged to illustrate the fact that he didn’t care either way, which was mostly true. There was a moment of silence before the stranger sank to their knees and began to unwrap the long strip of fabric they had wound around their face. It fell away in dusty coils, leaving faint indentations on the man’s tanned skin.
Bucky couldn’t help the way that his breath faltered when the last of the cloth fell away to reveal that the man he had been about to shoot... was little Buck Cleven.
