Summary
The world is burning.
A second wave of Nails rains down upon Teyvat, striking down those that had betrayed the sacred sacraments of the heavens. The Seven’s rebellion is struck down, and the Traveler goes down with them. Entire nations find themselves collateral, and their survivors turn towards unsavory allies in desperation.
A grieving twin carves the world apart in her despair, and rallies the remnants of a dying world in vengeance.
Darkness clashes against light, and the ark crumbles beneath the pressure. The world barrels towards its end, and in a desperate bid to alter fate itself, a lone wind decides to seek out its creator.
There, at the edge of time and space, God and Shade meet once again. Together, they weave a spell unlike any the world has seen before, and upon its activation, the universe shatters, and the world is rewound.
Five thousand years in the past, the god of wind is born anew. But… What use is there, in a god of freedom, who’s bound by the shackles of fate?

Xiao and Barbatos love each other, that is a fact. It's been that way for thousands of years, and if all goes well, it'll be that way for thousands to come. But how did it start? Well, with a meeting of course.
Accompanying Lord Morax to meet the other Archons was an honor given to the best of Rex Lapis's Adepti, so of course Xiao accepts when he's chosen. He might regret it once there, just slightly, but he just needs to keep it together until the meeting ends, then he can go home and forget everything about the event. That is what he would have done, had he not been followed by a god with big white wings and a bigger heart.
A warrior with the duty to slaughter and a gentle bard-god don't seem to have a lot in common, but somehow, they both end up being just what the other needs.
Or, how Xiao and Venti found each other, starting from the very beginning.

One drunken night he and Barbatos had made a contract that if by their decided date they weren't in a relationship, they'd just marry each other. If Rex Lapis had been sober, he would've never had made such a foolish contract, but as the God of Contracts, he can't very well break his own contract. He ultimately pushed it to the back of his mind, hoping it would work itself out. But now, the agreed upon date is quickly approaching and though he tries to get out of it, a certain funeral parlor consultant realizes he has feelings for a certain bard. But nothing's ever easy when it comes to love; as Zhongli reckons with his feelings, he must also face forces that threaten to tear him and Venti apart along with all of Teyvat.

Xiao is a bounty hunter, loyal to Decarabian in return for the safety of his crew and resources to sustain his community of yakshas after 'freeing' him from his old master, trading one nightmare for another. His assignments usually include tracking down traitors or finding the next exotic creature Decarabian wants to show off. The next assignment though is a step above his usual requests and when his feelings get in the way, will he follow through with his assignment, or rebel and risk the safety of himself and his village.

Yet, as the wind wrapped around him in a final embrace, Venti found that he felt no regret. His nation had lost faith in their god, and he had lost faith in himself. Perhaps this was the only true way to honor them, to free them from a god who had forgotten what it meant to be free.
He stepped forward, off the cliff, feeling the wind rush past him as he fell. His body plummeted through the air, and in those final moments, he thought of Mondstadt—the city he had loved, the people he had cherished. He thought of his friends, those who had come and gone, and the Nameless Bard who had taught him what it meant to sing with joy, to live with a heart full of freedom. Would anyone notice that their god died today?
