She doesn’t remember dying, but somehow, somehow, she knows that she did.
There are vague things, flashes behind her eyelids when she blinks, the sensation of liquid – sticky and hot – dripping down her chin, but nothing solid. Nothing to give her a clue about how or why or even how to stop it.
Before she can convince herself otherwise, Nancy is throwing on the first clothes she sees, pulling her hair back as she goes down the stairs. Her bike is exactly where she left it on- whatever day that was, and she’s riding down the road in minutes.
If Will can make the ride every few nights, Nancy thinks, she can make it now.
She doesn’t think about the creature lurking in these woods. Doesn’t think about how easily it could kill her, doesn’t think about how she doesn’t even know if she can die until they figure this out.
