Nergal attempts to kill Ereshkigal when he returns to the Underworld, because he is the god of war and inflicting death and that's how he knows how to solve his problems.
Ereshkigal kills him for it, of course. He's not the first god of war who thought they could challenge her in her own domain.
Enki, wiser and cleverer than hot-headed Nergal, does his best to unwind time and fix it. Try to undo what was done so that Nergal never has to go back to the Underworld again.But honestly... it was kind of hot. Given a second chance to stay put and keep his head down, Nergal has other plans.

“The True History of the Gem War”, also known as “The Book of Rose Quartz” and “The Time Before the Flood” is one of the most intriguing and controversial works of ancient Near Eastern mythology and history known to modern scholars. For nearly two centuries, it had been the focus of obsession and study, and yet we are no closer to deciphering its secrets than we were when it was first unveiled.
Traditionally, “The True History” is said to have been discovered by famed Anglish explorer and cataloguer Buddy Buckwick in 1762, while he was exploring ancient ruins in North Africa. Though only six thousand words, arranged into seven tablets, “The True History” appeared to be a syncretic approach to ancient Mesopotamian myth and legend, weaving together elements of “The Epic of Gilgamesh” and the heretical Biblical “Book of Enoch” into a narrative of a ‘War in Heaven’ or ‘Angelic Rebellion’. The text also included clear references to the Egyptian pantheon, and to other ancient Hebrew texts and Mesopotamian legends, and was written in a creole of Aramaic and Hebrew.
