Summary
Not long ago, a new discovery prompted a split in how Shinra classifies the Planet's fauna. The creatures known as monsters still threaten those who travel between the cities of the world. But then there are the new species whose numbers grow. Species who have abilities recorded in ancient texts. Creatures who might respond to the words of a Cetra.
Hojo just happens to have access to two. And all they need to do is say certain, specific, words.

She pointed. The cave roof above them glowed with pin-pricks of light. A river of light stretched from the cave entrance across the roof and down to the far wall. Tributaries branched off along its length, these offshoots thinning out, leaving whorls and clusters of light before fading to nothing. “There are stars here.”
Rain prevents seeing the stars directly; Aeris and Tifa make do.

Summary
Aeris curled a stray bang around her finger. “I was just wondering if you wanted to have a walk. With me?” A glance to the rest of Avalanche; still sound asleep.
"Uh, sure-“ He frowned. “Will the others be okay?”
“They will.” They would. They’d coped with enough monster attacks in the middle of the night. Avalanche would be fine. “Plus, I wanted to spend some time with just the two of us.” He got the hint.
A few days out from Costa del Sol and Avalanche stop to camp early; Aeris gets an idea.

Aeris raised her eyebrows. “I thought Nibelheim was quiet?”
“It is. But it’d be pointless to go back now; Shinra sent three divisions to that island.” Cloud gestured at the map. “Something’s happening and soon. And I’m certain you’re the only person who might be able to understand what.”
Doctor Aeris Gainsborough knows everything about the Cetra. Or so she thinks until a stranger turns up with an artefact the like she has never seen before.

Summary
The memory was oft-visited. This meant in turn that it was no longer authentic, or perhaps more accurately, it had acquired embellishments, edits, given a shinier veneer than the real. It was all too possible that rather than a singular version of the event in question, it was fragments of many different occasions, or perhaps mostly from one night with highlights for another. The recall and revisiting of the memory changed it over time. Impossible to prevent.
Aeris revisits a fond memory of a trip to the Gold Saucer and the man she met there.

Summary
“Wonder what motivates her.” The assassin, little more than a conjectured existence based on odd discrepancies in high profile murders; no pattern between the hits, no consistency in methods or location. Money must be part of it; to risk life wandering into highly secure locations, to do the bidding of the shadowy-secretive rich. Almost like Elena. No. Nothing like Elena. The Turks had a cultivated mystique but were rarely subtle or elegant. Their power came from the backing of their handlers, the visible weapon of a vast consortium.
Tifa can't stop thinking about the serial killer she's pursuing - and contemplates a distraction with Cloud.

Summary
Aeris scrambled into her seat and pulled the safety belt across her lap. A panel in front of her held a holster containing a stylized, old sci-fi movie looking ray-gun and a score display. The attendants moved along the train and reached without warning to tug at the safety belts.
“Do you know if the ride goes upside down?”
An angel sat beside her. Aeris blinked. Hyperbole - not an angel - but wow. Staring; the girl glanced away quickly, lips quirking into a smile, her cheeks flushing. Aeris blinked again and twitched. “Ah, no. Not as far as I know.” Did it? Brain stalled. She fidgeted, the movement halted abruptly by the belt. Ah. “It doesn’t.”
The girl relaxed but remained cautious. “That’s a relief.”

Summary
Sleep took a long time to return to normal. There was a long and tangled time from the destruction of Meteor to the point where the world seemed capable of turning on its own again. When Tifa’s life was not interrupted by a hundred things she needed to do, when there were not a thousand emergencies every-day. When she lived in a home again, one with a complete roof, with a working electrical system and taps producing clean, drinkable water whenever she turned them on.
Tifa can't sleep.

Summary
Reno hit pause, groaned and fidgeted on the hospital bed. Amongst the Turk's many supposed specialities, information and surveillance remained high on the list. Which was laughable given the infamous nature of the Turks at the best of times and their official listing as part of HR. But Tseng was something of dictator within the outfit. Reno may be too injured for field operations – something he dearly hoped would end soon – but not too incapacitated he could not watch video.
Reno might be in the hospital to recover after the fight at the pillar - doesn't mean he can't contribute in some fashion in the aftermath of Sephiroth's bloody attack on the Shinra building.

“Fine,” she said, forcing a smile. “Just…” Another glance towards the entrance of the Shinra building. No movement, no change to the ceilings. “Never expected to come back here.”

Summary
Tifa Lockhart, piano prodigy, returned home this week to the sleepy town of Nibelheim. Many still express surprise that a concert pianist of her level could originate from such a remote locale and with a strange lack of professional tutelage. When I put this to Lockhart all she can do is shrug and laugh at those who still insist there must be some subterfuge or that Lockhart herself is a distraction from the true talent.
Ahead of Tifa Lockhart's latest album - Reunion - our writer got a chance to quiz her about her life, her loves and her music.

Summary
Aeris stiffened against her. “This better not be a reason for me to hunt down some jerk for fiery retribution.” Her fists clenched tight.
“No, nothing like that.” Fiery retribution? Curious. “At least, I think it was genuine.” Aeris watched Tifa with a curious expression. “A company’s trying to promote their, er, adult toys and I think they want to capitalise on our fame.”
“Toys?” Aeris glanced over to Tifa’s bag. “Well; either you’re talking about pose-able dolls which would be deeply weird to talk to us about, or-”
Tifa followed her gaze. “The latter. And I didn’t bring it with me.” Her fingers fumbled with a loose thread on the sofa. “Wasn’t sure how you’d react.”
“Are they going to pay for your words?” Tifa shrugged. “Might be something to ask.” Aeris grinned.
Aeris and Tifa's report of their blind date in the newspaper gains them fans and an interesting new career.
