He'd recently discovered a particular bit of valuable information that concerned her future and knowing this, his time was limited. He manages to convince her to accept him in her life, in exchange for the promise of enough wealth from her show that would permit her to retire early as desired. Betelgeuse would be seen by others, human, but still dead and living among the living.
Betelgeuse reached out to Lydia, for selfish reasons, hoping to secure another prospect, before she... Well, things didn't go as planned and he'll learn what it is to make sacrifices.
