The sole deity of the world became bored one day, 200 years ago. So it decided to create superpowers, randomly gifting it to children. And then it sat down to watch the ensuing chaos.
The religious governments of the world named these "god-given gifts" for the powers that appeared heroic or good, while the unholy or bad or villainous became known as "demon-given gifts." Only 2% of the world has powers, and in an effort to control these powers, heroes came to be with their shining god-given gifts, fighting the darkness and evil in the world. The discrimination against the demon-gifted produced the villains they fought against.
One powerful god-gifted fought against the normality and refused to become a hero despite the government's attempts to persuade them. The Director, as they called themself, only wanted to live in their Facility with creatures and plants society called "The Life That Shouldn't Exist."
However, an evil lurks in the background that threatens the whole world, their Facility, and their peaceful life. And the Director can do nothing but answer the call.
