Summary
Ivy had the same wit and smart remarks that Aelwyn did, and the two of them fell into the same sort of comfortable banter, but Ivy wasn’t nearly as bitchy as she had been with the rage shard in her. All of The Bad Kids were obsessed with Mary Ann—even Gorgug, who seems to have gotten … extremely close to the kobold over the summer, and now that Ruben knew about Wanda Childa (Adaine chuckles to herself at this, that the ruse had even gone on that long), him and Fig were forming a genuine relationship based on their love of music, and not the insanity that came with tricking a kid to love your Alter Emo.
No one knows where Buddy Dawn went. Ivy remembered him being … obsessive when it came to the false god name Fig had originally given Porter. She briefly wonders what could have happened if Kristen had gotten through to him, had been able to sit and talk to him about what Helio truly was. Bobby Dawn left shortly after his nephew, to all of their welcome, especially Fig and Sandra Lynn.
Kipperlilly is still dead.
So … that solves that problem.
And Hakinvar had backed out of his party’s summer cleanup project forty five seconds after Augefort had assigned it to them.

Kipperlilly Copperkettle had struggled to fit in and keep herself under control for as long as she could remember. The fire in her chest, the storm within her, haunted her every day despite the best therapists money could buy.

Summary
Fig cackled. “Okay, we all go thrifting tomorrow and if we don’t find something we can all just go naked.”
“I actually think I’m gonna be busy during Homecoming, I can’t go,” Gorgug said flatly.
Kristen laughed and put her head up to peer over at Fig. “It’s okay, I’ll go naked with you.”
“We’ll be wearing suits, just a different kind!” Fig laughs cheerfully.
The cleric snorts again while the other four groaned. “Stop going to school naked, oh my god I should not have to keep telling you that,” Riz said, his hands covering his face.
“It’s just a body, Riz!” Kristen shot back. She tried to take her tank top off but the rogue tackled her, stopping her from scarring any of them any further.

Summary
Technically, Kipperlilly was aware that she was probably only ousted to the Abyss because her soul had already been corrupted beyond what could be considered a 'person' in the ritual she underwent. There was no place on the Great Wheel for (un?)dead gods and their shitty vessels, and Kipperlilly had been the only one dumb enough to take that deal instead of just getting a crystal shoved in her chest. Porter was probably puttering around somewhere down there too, unless he was lying to her about having completed the same ritual, which...she supposed she shouldn't put past him. If it still existed she would've been sent to Ankarna's blasted domain, but of course their stupid fucking plan had involved bringing that festering corpse of a hell into Elmville so the Bad Kids could conveniently un-corrupt it in between kicking their asses. Whatever the 'nice' version of Ankarna's afterlife was, Kipperlilly certainly wasn't welcome there.
But there was a spiteful little voice in her head that thought they put her there on purpose, just to piss her off.

Summary
Weeks ago, they were being systematically killed in the metaphorical and literal heat of battle, and when they died, there was much rejoicing. Now, most of them were having one-on-ones with the guidance counselor and are trying to figure out how to move on from being a group of villains moments away from helping destroy the world, to just being some lame, shitty, petty, dumb teenage students.
Yeah, they'll do fine, I'm sure.

“Do you think we would have been friends?” They’re lying his bed, the hum of an overhead fan the only accompaniment to her words. “Before everything?” He pulls her closer, in the way he knows she likes, and lays his head in the crook of her neck.
“I like to think so.” She hums, and he can hear her smile.

The genial smile stuck to his face starts to burn so he lifts the cup to his lips to have a few brief moments of respite. The smell never gets any less strange no matter how many times he’s exposed to bad baby milk. At least the last time he went through this, there was a cute elf to cut through the pain.
He would do anything to have Adaine interrupt this. At least he knew how to handle interacting with her. Mostly. And maybe then he could disappear from this conversation without being rude.
“Oisín!”
Huh.
Look at that. The divine grace of the Elven Oracle saves him again.

Summary
Kristen’s 6th year at the Gowpenny Academy of Arcane Arts was supposed to be a good one, but the nightmares that plague her each night leave nothing but fear and stress. Night after night she finds herself trapped in a deep, dark, twisted forest, the same dream on repeat. Even through the terror, there’s something that she’s drawn to. A whisper in the wind, a woman’s voice that sounds incredibly familiar. But then as quickly as it appears it’s gone and she’s left in the dark right as the unicorn’s horn pierces her heart.
Kipperlilly’s not having a much better year. She had been doing fine, had been doing great, actually. Making Prefect this year was all she wanted, but now every night she has dreams of being in a dark forest in front of a giant tree with jagged red crystals, smaller crystals in the ground. Every night she slices her hands as she tries to grab them, has to watch as the blood runs down her arms and she feels like a prisoner in her own body. She feels so incredibly alone.
All of this, plus having to sit next to and work with your nemesis for the entire school year makes them think that this year isn’t going to be as great as they thought.

Summary
The butterfly effect - a belief that rests on the notion that the world is deeply interconnected, such that one small occurrence can influence a much larger complex system. The effect is named after an allegory for chaos theory; it evokes the idea that a small butterfly flapping its wings could, hypothetically, cause a typhoon.
Or in this case, keeping your head down while walking down a hallway could make you bump into the person that will plan the murder of you and your friends within three years.
Time and fate truly work in mysterious ways.

Summary
The sky has opened up, and the first drops of rain have begun to hit the windows. In the Red Wastes, the coming of Last Rains was the herald of endings, of the end of the harvest season. But in some places, it was also the coming of new beginnings. The start of new life and new growth. A fresh start, for the desert.
There’s a metaphor in there somewhere, he’s sure.

Summary
Kipperlilly couldn't be there. It doesn't matter anyway, nobody noticed that she didn't reach the shaded corners of the lake clearing to do what they all had to. It really doesn't matter if she followed the shadows out of the woods and back to the school. It would probably good for someone to see her on campus, maybe her alibi would extend to the rest of the party, but if anything seeing the horror on her face would draw more attention. The rogue is supposed to be invisible, even when she isn't there people will look over their shoulders for some sign of her presence because even if she were there they would be greeted with the same nothingness. It would be more concerning to see her out in the open for once.
That's what she tells herself to justify hiding.

Summary
It was so easy to give in to Kristen. It always had been, really. The way Kristen touched her—so gently, but such intensity—made Kipperlilly’s heart race in ways that still surprised her. It was getting harder and harder to resist as the weeks went by. And truthfully, she wasn’t sure she wanted to resist anymore.
