Though the search for Basil was successful, it came at great cost; the portal to the Human Realm was lost, stranding Sunny, Luz and friends to the Boiling Isles. Su grupo de amigos era lo único que le importaba y por lo que luchaba para seguir adelante, pero desde que practicaba para dar lo mejor para el recital, no habían tenido tiempo para charlar los unos a los otros, y tampoco es como si Mari quisiera que se distraiga del recital.
Algunas veces, deseaba no haber nacido nunca, o morir un día antes del recital para no estorbar más en la vida de su familia. Aunque sus padres no lo quisieran, les facilitaría el trabajo, y aunque sus amigos lo quisieran como uno de lo suyos, por meter la pata de más, terminó estropeando todo con sus amistades. No le quedaba nada.
Si hubiera muerto, sería todo más feliz

Sunny risked his life to escape his dreams. When he moved, he left it all behind. His friends, Headspace, the piano, and the broken violin... Mari. All of it is behind him now. Kel still calls on occasion, inviting him to spend the summer with them, but despite how much he wants to visit, he can’t bring himself to go back to faraway.
...Until one day, the landline to his new home gets a call from the new folks who moved in to their old house. Ever since they found the broken violin, strange things have been happening in the house. A figure with long, black hair in the mirrors, the piano playing itself late at night, and a haunting eye, staring at into the house from the backyard. Sunny doesn’t need to question them further. He knows who it is.
And so, with nothing but a suitcase full of clothes, some cash, and a ticket to faraway, Sunny embarks on a quest to find out that his dreams may have more power of the real world then he might have realized, and to answer the call for help, or blood, that he knows his sister calls him to.

Kel and Hero have an argument over Mari. This time, Hero pushes Kel down the stairs and ends up killing him. His parents come by to check on them as they heard noises from upstairs. But instead of calling him a monster or even being disappointed in him, they instead assure him, telling him that it was only an accident and that he didn't really mean to do that.
