It was darkness. Except not quite.
It’s been there for a while now, clinging to the edges of his vision, of his awareness. There was something of an oiliness about it, dripping from the words it spoke as they slithered their way into his ears and mind, spreading like some disease, until all that was left was the voice. It sounded dark, should have sounded threatening, but much like oil slick there was a beauty to it, multitudes of colours reflected back in the darkness.
Whatever happened, he would only ever be able to recall it as a series of flashes and snapshots, his mind unable to comprehend what took place aside from the tall, dark figure looming right in front of him, too many eyes and too many teeth, dripping with blood just like its claws. The blood of Simon’s captors. The same blood that coated Simon and the knife he held.
And then it grinned at him, and there was something so very charming and beautiful about it.
