Summary
Annabeth was told growing up that demi-gods didn’t live long. Rarely, did they ever survive to adulthood.
Even if she wasn’t explicitly told, she could have looked around at camp and the absence would convey that message none the less.
Annabeth had decided early in her life what exactly she would be. She wanted to build something that would last years just as her mother once created the olive tree. (An olive tree on average can live up to five hundred years.)
She wanted something that would last past her own life. If her life was going to snuffed out in short period of time then she wanted it to be bright. She wanted a legacy.
(There’s something to be said here about the brightest stars.)
