Summary
Francis Crozier runs the Franklin Zoo, which, much to his despair, is a job that consists more of paperwork than of zoology. James Fitzjames, meanwhile, is quite happy in his position as the Zoo's Director of Operations... though he would like to try some other... positions... if only his aggravatingly handsome boss could tolerate his presence for more than a few minutes.
It is an uncomfortable, unsatisfying situation, but a manageable one for all parties involved.
At least until things begin going mysteriously, horrifically wrong at the Franklin Zoo.

After the ill-fated officers' meeting when Crozier insisted that both crews should unite on the Terror, and Franklin protested strongly, a sharp explanation took place between the captains. It ended with a blatant disgrace. But the situation cannot remain unresolved, the relations between the captains still need to be sorted out. Or maybe they should develop their relations to reach another level? Who knows...

"What do you think?" Franklin suddenly asked, stirring Fitzjames from the inside of his brain. "About Crozier's plan, I mean. Do you think he's a genius, or completely mad?"
Fitzjames held his tongue for a long moment, as he attempted to find a response behind his teeth. "Unfortunately," he eventually answered, "I believe his plan may have some merit." [...]
Franklin let out a long-suffering sigh. "Yes," he replied. "I do concede that you may be correct, though his words of fairy tales unnerved me. We must not go into the unknown chasing fiction, but we cannot go there seeking nothing, either. I have always known Crozier to be a pragmatic and conscientious bear—if he is making reference to legends, as it were, then he must have quite a strong reason to."

Fitzjames has been forced from his home one too many times. Crozier wishes to go north, and seek a place they’ll never be found again. A group is made, and an expedition is set out on, in search of an island that exists only in legend. -

James Fitzjames, hero of the British Navy, has taken up residence in a lonely family hall on Dartmoor. His steward John Bridgens is with him, though the pair cannot help but feel they may be under threat. And there is definitely something prowling around the Hall.
Captain Francis Crozier, one of the survivors of the doomed Terror voyage, is none to pleased with his new neighbor. Fitzjames is a towering reminder of all he failed to do and why he's exiled to the country with only a few former sailors for company.
