    Summary

You are devoted to your lord. You will do anything to be by his side, always. It is you who will weather his distemper, you who will be his confidant when visited by a great spectre, and you who will see him through his feigned madness.

You pray to the heavens you will get your lord out of this alive, for the court is full of vipers, and there’s something rotten in Denmark.

A second-person perspective of Hamlet from Horatio’s POV, retelling canon events with a focus on Horatio’s loyalty and devotion.

Horatio’s story, from before the beginning until the very end.

A medium-velocity-burn journey through the fluff-to-angst pipeline with a loyal, nerdy, prickly, laconic, and gentle person as a guide.

Expect complex backstories, wild canon divergences, sexually charged character development, and classics as a coping mechanism.

I always wondered how exactly someone seemingly so well-adjusted and self-sufficient as Horatio becomes so blindly devoted to someone like Hamlet?

    Summary

    Hamlet died in pieces.
He gasped his last breath in Horatio’s arms, of course; clinging to his shirt, desperate lips mouthing his name. But he had begun to die months ago.
And Horatio had stood at his side and watched it happen.

It was July. The butterfly blossoms were golden in the sunset, and Hamlet’s voice had not been heard in the halls of Elsinore for months.
But oh, God. Horatio heard him everywhere.

The ghosts. The ghosts. They never stay quiet, do they?

Horatio monolouges about his vow to keep Hamlet's memory alive and positive by romanticizing the "real" story and inventing the canon narrative. If that makes sense? idk i wrote this for my ap lit class and it was actually kinda good so yea.

He would not move. Fortinbras arrived with dozens of men. He claimed the land, declaring himself to be the new king of Denmark. Horatio couldn’t care less; anyone could be the damned king so long as it brought back Hamlet.

    Summary

A train window rattles cold against a cheek. The black eyes are half-open but too alert to drowse. One hand has folded itself over the top of a damaged suitcase, pressing hard enough to leave creases on the thinly-mittened palm. The legs are dark brown and tired, well-used, jutting out from under a hand-sewn skirt and folding down into beige socks and battered boots. The heels of the socks are clean but threadbare, and the jacket has been ironed but bears stains of years. Lying over the jacket is an anomaly, an expensive cloak of rich green wool. The other hand, ungloved, twists in its warm fabric, worrying thick threads between its nails.
The traveller’s eyes flick open, staring keenly at the passing trees. The countryside of Germany is lit by a full moon, parting into towns and steeples on either side of the charging train. The clatter of wheels on tracks fills the traveller’s mind, lulling her even as it heightens her anxieties. She is headed North, into bitter cold and bitter mourning. The King of Denmark, her dear friend’s father, has died.
