Summary
Sephiroth and Genesis investigate reports of human sacrifices to demons in a remote village to take Genesis’ mind off Angeal’s recent engagement.
Which is a truthful but not very accurate summary of what’s coming, so I think it’s fair to disclose this started as my attempt to write a non-toxic relationship between Sephiroth and Genesis and then really, really spiraled into a non-linear narrative set in a vaguely Sengoku-like fantasy world so I could incorporate a bunch of obscure Japanese yōkai, at least three feature POV characters I’ll probably never write again, intergenerational trauma with lots of noncanonical theories, and so many other tropes. So many. My first draft was already pushing 200K words.
Pay attention to the tags, and if I run out of them as I expect, to the chapter headnotes for additional warnings.
12/25/24: Vincent takes Genesis to the winter fair in Corel. I wrote this a while ago but have been saving it for the holidays. Hope you're all well!

Summary
How would the world be different if Ifalna never died? Kasumi Kisaragi? Thea Lockhart?
This is an exploration of a universe in which every mother who dies in canon is instead guaranteed survival, and the chance to play an active role in shaping the world around her.
Yes, all of them.
