His husband slid his arms around Josh's waist and rested his head on his shoulder, watching as the box was opened.
Josh held the first one up for them both to examine. Eddie chuckled at the garment, pressing a kiss to Josh's shoulder. "Chris is going to hate them. I love it."

This was originally a character study of Evan "Buck" Buckley that turned into what would've happened if Season 4 made Buddie canon (as intended). We watch him navigate unexpected parenthood on the surface, but we're really studying why Buck behaves the way he does, why he falls back into self-sabotaging even though he knows he shouldn't, and what it takes to convince someone you love that they're worthy of the love you're giving.

Applying to become a firefighter, he enrolls in the LAFD fire academy before being assigned to station 118. As he works on building friendships with his co-workers, he also tries to find the family he’s always wanted and find the love of his life.

“Mijo,” Eddie said softly, reaching for Buck’s hand for to reel him back in as he addressed Chris. “Most babies, like you once were, come from a pair of Mommy and Daddy, or a Mama and Papa. Mommy and Mama are usually women, but your Papa and I are both men.”
“So… I didn’t come from Papa?” Chris asked, tears brimming in his bright eyes, a mixture of confusion and sadness washing over his face.

Summary
Years before joining the 118, Buck’s travels take him to El Paso, where he meets Christopher. When Eddie comes back from Afghanistan and Shannon leaves, Buck ends up staying. As bills pile up, the best move is for them to get married, just for convenience, they’ll divorce when Eddie comes back from his re-enlistment.
Then Eddie gets injured and it’s just easier to stay married for a little longer, while Buck gets started at the 118. However, Buck doesn’t mention his ‘husband’ and kid, not feeling like they’re his to keep. When Eddie gets the offer from Bobby, they decide to lie and pretend they don’t know each other, so they can work together.
The whole lie gets out of hand as feelings start to become real, until it all comes to a head in the aftermath of the fire engine explosion.
AKA: Secret marriage of convenience buddie slow burn AU, where Buck and Eddie have been married for years so Buck could adopt Chris and no one at the 118 knows.

Summary
Eddie is handling Chris being away just fine... totally fine... ok... not at all. He is fully set in a routine because without it he'll be depressed and punching walls again. He misses his son and just when Chris starts talking to him, his parents start to pull him to stay in Texas. To distract himself, Eddie spends more and more time with Buck and the 118, and maybe even tries dating (but it's not going well).
Buck is Eddie's best friend, of course when Eddie's son leaves for Texas, Buck has to support him. And yes that might mean spending more time with him than other people, including his boyfriend. When Tommy starts to act jealous, Buck confides in his family and the 118.
The 118 is a family and everyone has their role but what happens when two people talk to you and not each other... chaos.

Glory’s unwoken by the alarm, curled up on his chest, her tight curls tickling him lightly.
He watches her for a moment.
Yes, it’s not always comfortable to have a four year old sleeping in your bed, but sometimes she’s the only thing that helps him wind down and feel comfortable as well.
It’s probably kind of a codependent bond to have, but whatever. He’ll feel guilty about that when he gets through the million other things he has to think about.

Maddie’s voice drew Eddie away from the box he had been putting together in the bedroom. It had taken a few months, but he and Buck had finally found a place to live. It was a four-bedroom home that was accessible for Chris, had a big backyard for Buck’s bee’s and was close enough to Paige and Chris’s school and to the fire station.

Buck twisted his ring back onto his finger, before curling himself forward, trying to keep his energy locked inside his body. “Are you not? I feel like I’ve been called into the teacher’s office.”
Tommy gave him his patented unimpressed look as he waved his hand at the finger paintings and word-of-the-day displays around the classroom. “That is literally what’s happening.”
“Yeah, but I mean… it’s just giving me flashbacks, okay.” He couldn’t seem to sit still. And not just because they’d been forced to fold themselves into a pair of too small, plastic chairs.
“I take it you spent a lot of time in the teacher’s office,” Tommy asked.
“I was a kid with undiagnosed ADHD who got their parents’ attention by being reckless. I practically lived there!”

Buck and Tommy get called in for a chat by their daughter's teacher to discuss how their girl has been making up stories that can't possibly be true.
Like how her Dad was resurrected by a lightning strike.
