Summary
Every ten years, the great tree bears a single Golden Fruit - the most delicious and sought after fruit in Pokévrth. To decide who will receive the fruit, Queen Meloetta of the Aurumus Kingdom invites the children of the land to a grand challenge.
The great tree is in bloom once more, and the time for the 99th Queen's Tournament draws near. A young Mienfoo from the countryside is eager to join the tournament and make friends along the way, but there are many with sinister motives in mind.
Beneath the veneer of friendly competition, a great conflict is brewing - one that threatens all of Pokévrth.

Summary
It seemed silly to be afraid of a little mushroom, but when that mushroom was a genetically modified war experiment that was currently running rampant in her home, and it was known for taking control of the host and literally devouring the brain of the host, plus reanimating the dead… yeah, it was understandable that most people were afraid of a fungus
The fungus consumed everything, always looking for a new host, always needing more nutrition. Everyone was infected with spores from the fungus, it was impossible to avoid that, but the spores themselves were weak and unable to do much.
The real problem came when the spores were able to take control and start growing. That only happened when their host dies, or when the host got a sudden energy boost, generally from evolution.
Those consumed and controlled by the fungus are at least noticeably different, with mushroom caps growing all of their decaying bodies. Truly a horrific sight, especially when they’re in groups, and accompanied by the stench of decay.

Long ago, Pokévrth was a vast, deadly world inhabited only by savage Pokémon. Then Arceus arrived.
Arceus saw the chaos and mindless violence that the beasts of Pokévrth wrought in their rage and hunger. They dreamed of something greater - a utopia where Pokémon of all shapes, types, and sizes could communicate and love one another.
They embarked on three great Journeys across Pokévrth, enlightening the savages they encountered. Through magic, they created children of their own - the Legendary Pokémon - to spread their dream even further across the realm.
And together, they created something worse.
A world of war and sin.
...
The Journeys have long since ended, and Arceus has long since abandoned this world.
But their children and the descendents of the enlightened still remain here, living their lives. Though war and violence still plagues Pokévrth, in some places Arceus's dream still lives on.

While living in Galar’s cold climate and snowy areas, its fire sac eventually cooled and atrophied.
It was strange, because personally Melony couldn’t picture them as any type other than Ice.
