They're doing a pretty good job of not making each other upset. He doesn't see why he has to ruin it. But it's the kind of bruise you cannot help prodding, a toothache bolstered by the text message from Kristoph this morning, the first of the trip, a simple and innocuous So how are you liking Italy?
