“No, I can’t,” Anakin’s hands ran down his forearms, up his biceps and to his chest where he grabbed desperately onto his shirt.
“Why not?” Obi-Wan’s fingers threaded through Anakin’s hair, petting and carding through the short strands. Anakin felt more self conscious than he’d ever felt in his life.

He was untethered, lost. Without a purpose, wandering, with a stifling sense that something horrible was looming ahead. The rare times he had fallen asleep he was plagued by nightmares.
The most frequent one was Padme dying. His wife, his beloved dying painfully and him helpless to stop it. There were other dreams, more abstract. A feeling of suffocating, his breathing sounding akin to an airlock hiss, a heavy mask on his head. Another one Obi-Wan was choking him,
“You are rotting inside! Under that beautiful surface is nothing but decay.” his hand constricted tighter, “You are still a slave, you will never be free.” Those words from Obi-Wan felt wrong. -

After that the questions started, the speculation, only getting worse once the war began and he became, force-forbid, a public figure. It grates on him, when each holo report he reads seems to name him something else, except for what he actually is. The headstrong alpha knight, the omega protector of the republic, the steadfast beta, unmoved in the face of danger. Even people who’ve met him do it, just assuming based on what mood he was in, which scent was stronger that day. It’s not like he’s ashamed of it, when someone asks he just tells them, and gets a variety of reactions, from disbelief to disgust, and more than once a comm number slipped into his hand. That last one infuriates him the most, the message clear. You might be a freak, but it’s fine, as long as you’re fuckable too.
