In this pre-Sherlock story and prequel to the series premiere, “A Study in Pink,” Captain John Hamish Watson, MBBS, licensed general practitioner, and combat surgeon in training, is shot while on a retrieval mission in Afghanistan, and spends weeks afterwards battling complications and fighting for his life. Originally written and posted as a one-shot about the day he was shot, it has since been expanded into a 20-chapter story, covering the time from John’s shooting until he returns to London. Be forewarned: Sherlock himself makes no appearance at all in this story!

“Given Me Back My Life” is a one-shot sequel to this story that follows the events of “A Study in Pink”. If you haven't yet done so, better plan on first reading this story and then watching that episode, if you can! =)
